Got a date with the NBA All-Star Weekend? Hoop romanticists, you know who you are.

It’s that time of year again, where love is brewing in the air. We’re talking about the love of the game. No disrespect to the thousands of cards, flowers, chocolates, and all that other lovey-dovey, Valentine’s Day related propaganda which sure enough contribute to a love-filled holiday weekend. Coincidentally, the weekend of love this year, February 12-14, 2010, surrounds itself around largely anticipated NBA All-Star action, as historically, this is the first NBA All-Star game which will take place on actual Valentine’s Day. So please excuse the excess of adrenaline and rising temperatures…

Here are the top 30 reasons we’re riled up about the 2010 NBA All-Star weekend: (Special thanks to contributors, pointgod, D&K!)

30. D-League All-Star game.

29. Brandon Jennings’ hair. If he keeps this up, he’s definitely going into our hair hall of fame.

28. A dunk that outdoes this one by the ‘Air up there’ or perhaps a tribute to the classic windmill.

27. Dunks, dunks, and more dunks: technique vs props. Nice to see some who will bring back just pure dunk technique, athleticism, and power to go up against some who like to use clever props.

26. Reunited and it feels so good. Horry and Fox back together in the Celebrity All Star Game.

25. Mark Cuban literally “in” the game. We all know he’s always been in the game, now, his first appearance in the Celebrity Game.

24. Shaq not being an all-star. Now he can focus more on his Shaq vs. reality show.

23. Waiting to see if the rest of the east does a “freeze out” of Iverson. Dude doesn’t belong there and everyone but him knows it.

22. Potential first upset in Rookie challenge since 2000.

21. Some crazy dance moves by Shakira.

20. A surprise all-star appearance by the MVPuppets? Are we tired of them yet?

19. Which NBA player will have enough balls to bring a gun with them? (we kid, we kid, please don’t fine us.) The commish would like for you to leave all weaponry at home.

18. Hosted at the all new Dallas Cowboys Stadium, “because everything is bigger in Texas”. Can they really sell out Dallas stadium? Those cheap seats are going to be terrible.

17. Speaking of the stadium, a contributor thinks the 3-point contest is going to be the lowest score ever. Depth perception in such a large place is waaay different than a normal arena.

16. But I’m relying on Gallinari to disprove that theory.

15. The number of times they’ll show Dwight Howard in his Adidas tanktop. (This comes from one of our female contributors.)

14. Alicia Keys (This comes from one of our male contributors)

13. Kevin Durant defending his H-O-R-S-E title.

12. Brandon Jennings in the Skills challenge.

11. Speaking of Skills challenge, why does Taco Bell Skills Challenge sounds soooo weird?

10. 10 years of NBA on TNT – congratulations to Ernie Johnson, Kenny Smith, Charles Barkley.

9. Haven’t been this excited about the all-star lineup since ’91.

8. First time All-stars: Welcome, Kevin Durant, Derrick Rose, Rajon Rondo, Deron Williams, Al Horford, Gerald Wallace, and Zach Randolph.

7. Trade Rumors. Amar’e to the Nets? Ray Allen to the Heat? McGrady to the Wizards? We’ll see what else unfolds.

6. Announcement of the TNT All-Decade Team. Vote now for the best individual performance of the last decade.

5. The Shoes.

4. Let DeMar DeRozan Dunk because he’s got 99 problems but dunks ain’t one.

3. Let Shannon Dunk.

2. One year closer to the All-Star Game in LA next year. (Editor bias. Yes, we’re from LA.)

1. $ on LeBron for All Star MVP. Because he wants the “best in league” title from Kobe.

What are YOU pumped up for? Let us know!

Here are a few for you to graze on for now. Can’t wait to see more posters as they unfold!

Carmelo Anthony on Paul Milsap

Ty Lawson on DJ Mbenga (Mbenga seems to be a popular poster victim)

Shannon Brown on Mikki Moore (this one technically doesn’t count since it’s preseason, but it’s fun. We expect to see some more out of this guy)

Since the dawn of mankind, pranks have gone hand in hand with general camaraderie and the strong bond established between those who have come to that comfort level of having the last laugh. Yes, because he who laughs last, laughs…last!

NBA players are no more immune to the quick-witted and downright silly pranks than we are. These pranks are sometimes a result of being the rookie on the team, just another newbie getting a lesson from their elders – or all in good fun from some of the more clever teammates willing to stir up a good laugh. Some unfortunately don’t get on camera, such as the infamous story of Tony Bobbitt’s rendezvous with Lucy Liu, so we can only imagine all the fun-filled pranks that go down. But here’s a look at some of the best NBA pranks caught on video.

Jason Thompson gets his car vandalized for failing to bring bagels.

And you thought NBA players can’t freestyle? While they may bust ankles and break backboards on court, off the court they’re just as smooth on the mic and on camera. Let these guys take the stage and give you a little something to remember them by. Here’s a look at some memorable freestyling from NBA players who have taken the art of rhyme to a new level.

Delonte West
He will not disappoint. He kills it with his extra hot sauce in the bag while waiting at KFC.

Ron Artest
He ignites the floor and he ignites the mic with TruWarier productions. After dropping his album “My World” in 2006, he’s spending some off time this summer touring China. Can’t wait to see what’s next on his rap agenda. He’s my favorite, the others have nothing on Ron Ron.

Shaquille O’Neal
He’s already got 5 rap albums under his belt, and now that he’s a Shaq-a-lier, maybe he’ll bring some of his raw freestyle to the good citizens of Cleveland.

Hyperizers
Rashard Lewis as Ice-O, Mo Williams as Fog Raw, Kevin Durant as Velvet Hoop and Andre Iguodala as Chief Blocka debut their new rap single and music video, “Don’t Criticize, Hyperize.”

Stephon Marbury
If you take the Star and put it with the –bury, Starbury is a celebrity waiting to happen. With his recent real-life, in-the-flesh, this-is-me look into his life while videostreams to the world, he continuous shows us he would rather own than be owned, and perhaps that applies to his freestyle approach as well.

Tony Parker
Whether he’s inspired by Eva, or just plain gifted, Tony gets on the mic and does it like they do in France, in French.

Kobe Bryant
From Italy to the US, he’s also taken a stab at his rap career and shows us what it’s like to give it up for his Italian roots. Think he raps as well as he plays ball? You be the judge.

Gary Payton and Chris Webber Collabo

All right we had to sneak this one in.. a collection you won’t want to miss. But the Glove has been known to flow, and

Allen Iverson
When AI isn’t busy not practicing, you might catch him rhyming.

Troy Hudson
aka T.Hud, so his album didn’t exactly go platinum…

How you like them freestyles? Think you can do better?

The players below have exactly that in common, they’ve done all they could, and as the fates would have it, just never grabbed that ring. They will go down in history as some of the finest players to ever touch the ball, but it just wasn’t enough. There are a few NBA players who may follow suit, if things don’t happen for them soon. Will NBA greats like Allen Iverson, Jason Kidd, and Steve Nash join the list of the best NBA players to never win a championship? Time’s almost up…

While everyone’s buzzing about the top first round picks in the 2009 NBA Draft, there may be a few who fell through to the second round and deserve to stay on the radar. If history has taught us anything, we’ve witnessed some 2nd rounders who have proven themselves to be necessary components in this game. Dennis Rodman, Jeff Hornacek, Mark Price ring a bell? Not so shabby considering they were selected later down the line. Who knows, maybe Sam Young, DeJuan Blair are the next diamonds in the rough. Here are mix videos of the best 2nd round picks still playing in the NBA:

It’s iPhone mayhem! OK, for those of you who are perfectly content with your Blackberries, or other form of communication tool – this isn’t going out to you. For those who can’t seem to live without your iPhone by your side, or have just picked up the new iPhone 3GS, we’ve rounded up a list of basketball-related apps you might want to check out. Disclaimer: We are in no way affiliated with any of the following app providers and it’s up to you if you want to download them. Please be sure to read their descriptions and reviews via iTunes. Enjoy~

NBA Highlights

Price: Free
Never miss a key moment from the 2009 NBA playoffs. Maybe they will return with a new app next year.

NBA Player Bobbleheads

Price: $0.99
Shake, tilt, rotate your iPhone or iPod touch and watch your favorite NBA player bobble. Players include Andre Iguodala, Carmelo Anthony, David Lee, Derrick Rose, Dwyane Wade, Kevin Durant, Nate Robinson, Paul Pierce, Shaquille O’ Neal, Tim Duncan, Vince Carter, Allen Iverson, Baron Davis, Brandon Roy, Chris Paul, Dwight Howard, Kevin Garnett, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Steve Nash, and Yao Ming

Flick NBA Basketball

Price: $1.99
Compete in five individual events including 3point shootout, hotshot arcade, long shot challenge, and H.O.R.S.E. Sorry, no slam dunk though.

Arcade Hoops Basketball Lite

Price: Free
Sink baskets in 45 seconds using only your ifinger and our lightning fast hand-eye coordination. There’s also a full version which costs $1.99 but apparently, for the price and features, the free version is the way to go.

ESPN Zoom Cameraman

Price: Deluxe: $2.99, Lite: Free
Photohunt from a collection of some of the best sports photos – pick out what’s different between the images. You’ve probably seen similar games at your local bar, now have a sports-related version on your iPhone.

Streetball

Price: $1.99, Lite: Free
Tap to pass, shoot, steal, block, dunk, this is a street version of basketball to pass the time.

3-Point Skills Challenge

Price: $0.99
As stated above, here’s a game to test out your 3-point skills, an app with some of the better graphics than other apps out there, but noted as a little choppy in animation.

Megatouch Hoop Jones

Price: $3.99
The biggest complaint was the price, but it’s based off another familiar arcade game, simply touch the player and start racking up points.

Y! Fan – Professional Edition

Price: $3.99
Manage your Yahoo! Fantasy Sports teams on your iPhone/Touch. There is a free version which apparently is crap, and the $3.99 version seems to be OK.

Aqua Hoops or Aqua Baller

Price: Free
Underwater basketball game, similar to those water tank toys. There is a free and paid version, many say the free is adequate enough. Another way to pass time.

For those of you who need a free sports app to keep you posted with scores, tons of free score apps to choose from including:

ESPN ScoreCenter

Fox Sports Mobile

CBS Sports Mobile

Sportacular

SportsTap

Pro Basketball Scores

Or you can always bookmark your favorite sport site for score updates.

There were some basketball apps we found, with such poor reviews we couldn’t find the heart to mention them. And then there were the apps we couldn’t justify spending $4.99+ for. As much as we love basketball, we also couldn’t justify any reason to want to simulate dribbling with an iPhone, isn’t that what a real basketball’s for? At any rate, let us know if you have any favorite basketball iPhone apps.
