Rookie of the… Week: Brandon Jennings

Here are 7 reasons why everyone’s got their eye on this rare diamond in the rough and potential rookie of the year. We’ve liked him since he had trekked to Europe to continue to develop his game and like many other hoop-heads, we’ve never doubted his determination and confidence to become a competitive point guard when his day came to join the NBA. Earlier this year, SLAM had an excellent piece that brought us a little closer to Jennings who was in Rome at the time.  And now, here he is, a proud Milwaukee Buck, gaining some well-deserved NBA limelight.

1. 55 Points by a rookie.

2. That’s the most points by a rookie in 41 years (previously Earl Monroe, 1968)

3. Brandon Jennings and LeBron James are the only two players to score 50+ points under the age of 21.

4. Brandon Jennings is actually the youngest player to score 50+ points at 20 years + 52 days old.

5. He’s also the 3rd Bucks franchise player to score 50+ points (alongside Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Michael Redd)

6. Currently averaging 25.5 points per game.

7. First Buck to have back to back 30+ games since Glenn Robinson, 1995

Once Michael Redd returns, the question is, will Jennings still be able to shine?  What do you think?  Is Brandon Jennings’s fated to become Rookie of the Year?  In the meanwhile, watch the recap below and revel in each and every point he scored that night vs Golden State.

early predictions…but i believe that his numbers will drop due to michael redd’s comeback. this kid has star potential, but i think he needs to sit behind a start for a year or two. its like kobe behind shaq type of thing…

Leo, I don’t think so at all. Brandon Jennings is a point guard first… but Milwaukee is NOT THAT talented of a team outside of Redd and Bogut. His numbers may drop JUST a little because this is such a torrid start even just for him but he’s going to continue to score points until they get more talent around him. In the meantime, he’ll keep them afloat.
